Therapy Approaches I Utilize
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is the most scientifically proven therapy for treating anxiety and mood disorders and involves helping you to identify and alter troubling thought patterns, which, in turn, can fundamentally alter your behavior. CBT is the approach I most often utilize with clients.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a form of CBT and is a method of helping you to learn and incorporate into your life specific skills which will help you to begin exerting greater control over your mood, grow a greater and healthier tolerance for distress, and incorporate mindfulness into your approach to life, allowing you to embrace a more peaceful life.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT is a very effective treatment for relationship issues (with success rates of over 90%) which helps us identify the approach both you and your partner take to your relationship. Armed with that understanding, we will be able to identify negative triggers and cycles in your relationship, and you will both be able to make substantive changes to improve interaction and work as a team.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
Statistically, EMDR is the most effective treatment for trauma and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but it is also very useful as an adjunct therapy in treating anxiety and depression. We will use bilateral stimulation to help you desensitize to a traumatic event and reprocess it effectively so that it no longer contains a disturbing level of emotional, mental, or physical trauma. The memory isn’t changed in this process but your level of emotional and physical distress to the memory is. EMDR Therapy is also very helpful in eliminating persistent negative beliefs about yourself which are rooted in childhood experiences and beliefs.
Play Therapy
Play is the language children speak and can help open a door to help them in processing their experiences effectively and learning new coping strategies. Coupled with parenting support and guidance, children can make sense of their experiences and learn new ways to adapt, heal and thrive.
Prepare-Enrich
This is a premarital and marital assessment which gives us a starting point for improving necessary skills in your relationships which might include communication and conflict resolution, identifying and uniting parenting styles, and addressing differences in areas such as financial management, sexuality, extended family, and spiritual beliefs.
Christian Counseling
I have found my biggest personal strength to be my faith. If that is true for you as well, I would be pleased to incorporate Christian principles and guidance into our counseling sessions. As a strengths-based counselor, I have found personal faith in God to be one of the greatest strengths my clients can leverage in finding lasting healing and freedom.
